Play Is the First Language follows a charity-supported community project in Varna, Bulgaria, where local educators and families work together to prepare Roma children for school through play-based learning. 

The “learn and play” groups help children develop Bulgarian language skills at an early age, reducing barriers they might face in the state education system and beyond. 

Through everyday moments of play, learning, and conversation, the film explores what integration looks like in practice - how trust is built, and how understanding grows between communities. 

The documentary offers a hopeful view of change led by education, care, and community.
